Kavanna Day!!

We have Kavanna!!  The hours crawled until it was time to leave for the Civil Affairs Office.  Once we got there we went into a big room and waited for the babies, who were across the hallway.  Someone opened the door to that room and I saw Kavanna sitting on the lap of a nanny.  Then the nannies brought the babies in and stood in a line.  I was waving to Kavanna, who looked rather confused and reflective.   She was quiet for a moment after they placed her into our arms and then she began to protest.  Loudly.  She screamed and cried until she was sweaty and worn out, and then she screamed some more.  She stopped crying after we gave her a teddy bear.  She did very well for the next couple of hours, and then began to call out for her mama, which broke my heart.  Poor baby, her world has turned upside down... all we can do is give her comfort and love.

David sang to her and she fell asleep.  He sang The Year Of The Cat, which I think is a dreadful song but right now it's my favorite song because it's very soothing to my daughter.  And yes, it's highly cool to be able to write, "my daughter."

She is adorable and beautiful.  She has a bright, inquisitive, smart look in her eyes.  And she's also  chubbilicious baby, with chunky thighs and chubby cheeks.  She is absolutely precious and we are completely in love!!

"Who is this strange woman?  Get me away from her.  Help!!!!"
These people gave me a soft teddy bear.  Maybe they're okay, after all.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt...

Nina, David & Ariel,

Congrats! Kavanna is beautiful! We're so happy for you!

I know that sad "mama" cry. Ethan was fine with us in our hotel room in Chongqing until we bathed him and started getting ready for bed. Then he realised no one was coming back for him. You could literally see it dawn on him--this is it! He cried off and on for a couple days. He's been fine ever since.

Take care,
Nina C

YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so so so excited for you all. What wonderful pictures! I'm so glad that you had a moment to post.

She's just a living doll! No doubt these first days will be challenging. My advice - do whatever it takes to survive these days. It's such a great sign that she is crying when you hold her!

Best of luck to you all and your darling, sweet, precious little Kavanna!

Oh Nina, I am almost in tears seeing these pictures. Your long wait was worth it. I am sure she'll adjust over time. I'm so, so happy for you.

I think you mentioned you had slings and such - I am huge into babywearing and I think it really helps with attachment and bonding. Let me know if you need any help or advice with carriers.

So happy for you!! As you know from our experience, keep her close to you as much as possible, in a carrier. It does get better each new day. I get lots of snuggles, hugs and kisses.
Hope you're getting some sleep too.
